We made a dinner date with Joyce (Terry was working late) so we could tell them the news. At the table, Kristy told her mom that our trip was not random. "Ok" she said, most likely expecting us to ask for help on the house or something. Kristy said "You're going to be a grandma."
Follow up:
to which Joyce replied (without batting an eye - but a slight glare of the eyes assuming we were abusing the word "grandma") "You're getting another dog." "No", Kristy said, "we're having a baby". "No you're not." "Yes, we are." "No, you're not." "No, we really are." "Really?" "Yes, really" and about that time it finally hit... her eyes lit up, smiling from ear to ear, and she hugged Kristy.
I think the next thing she said was "I want to go buy it something" (Which is funny, because just a few days prior, we were discussing the 5 love languages, and tried to tell Joyce that we thought her love language was Gift Giving - but she disagrees)
Later, Terry came home. Kristy asked him if he wanted some good news and he said sure. She told him he was going to be a grandpa, and all that happened was a slight jaw-drop happy stunned silence for a few seconds until Kristy broke the silence to say that was a better reaction than Joyce calling the baby a dog!
